Well its official. My Grandparents have been married for 50 years! Amazing they celebrated their anniversary with most of the family over 100 people there! It was pretty fun you know. Well then it was funny! and I loved every second of it because although it was fun. It was a lot of work and I am still kind of very tired! Then from there I think everyone is still recuperating. I mean there was a live band and the family all donated food and cooked and made all the decorations and even like decorated. I mean there was a lot of time and effort put into this anniversary wedding!...But all in all I'm just happy for my grandparents

Well last week Tuesday and Wednesday, I went to my college freshmen orientation. It started at 8 and then like the day before okay like our biggest dilemma was that someone lost the parking ticket but I woke up and okay I checked in to the LoboOrientation! And we were told to get our key from them and go put our stuff in our rooms that we were going to be staying in. Then from there oh man everything for me just went WRONG! The key let me get into the apartment but it didn't let me get into my room and then I asked one of the NSO leaders. They came and tried to do it then from there I had to get a new pair of keys because the ones I had were "defective" then you know what I tried those keys and.....they.....didn't work!!! Then I went back to where I had checked in by this time hardly anyone was there. Then after that I had to wait...and wait...and wait. Until someone came with some keys to get me a different room and then eventually I got a room and stuck my stuff in there and then left and then one of the new student orientation (NSO) leaders took me to my group. My leader was Alonzo! He was a pretty awesome dude. haha he's a Biology Major, loves to color and apparently loves to dance..and play games. Well when I got there we did this weird hand game where you did hand motions with your names and everyone had a motion for their name and then I was the last one. I had to learn everyone's name haha right then and there because I hadn't been there when they started! Then I thought the game was pretty fun. Haha Well then after that we went to the Kiva... it's this huge lecture hall that can fit like 250 people. Yeah well anyway I remember most of the time being in that classroom because they had lots of skits and fun things like teaching us the cool hand motions and songs for the school and some cool lectures from teachers and staff. Then from there yeah...also some boring stuff like financial aid...and credit! Dude it was boring but I mean the skits made up for everything. Then during these two days we did lots of group activites like signing up for classes, having them checked by an advisor. Then eating and besides that going to Starbucks. haha and drinking Red Bulls and visiting the Pope Joy Hall. Then having a job fair. Then me seeing one of my old friends. that was really fun and it made me really excited to start school and I still haven't seen my apartment. Haha Well then... yeah I just think that maybe I'm ready but I'm not sure... Dang! Well eventually made it home and man it is a thousand times hotter in the city than the rez... But yeah... Fun!
Well On Monday, July 21, 2008 LEF headed to California at 6:05 AM. How fun...I had to wake up at like 3 am! My dad and I left Laguna at 4 AM. We didn't stop for breakfast or anything. I text Christina and Steph to see where they were just to see if I was running late, because usually I am. I am usually almost always the one with the most luggage. And this time it was held true again! :D...I brought my carry on luggage, which was dedicated entirely to my pillow and cords for my PSP, iPod, and cellphone! That's pretty much all I packed on my carry on because my other suitcase with all that heavy stuff was stowed underneath! I think I was the only one not wearing something comfortable, NOT that Jeans aren't comfortable! :) Well, we flew in one of the most smallest commerical airplanes I think that has either been my 2nd or 3rd time riding in one of those ExpressJets. I generally like the smaller planes but typically when I don't have to share a seat, because when you have another person sitting next to you then everything gets cramped up and like ugh no leg or arm room.. But I did manage to get 3 Window Seats! But that morning Francis was the last one to arrive at the departure gate! We flew from Albuquerque to Salt Lake City... Then we took a smaller plane than the ExpressJet to Burbank Bob Hope Airport. That airport is really small! Then when we arrived we got our luggage. I reminded me of the Grand Forks Airport... Aw...Good Times! Well Francis left to get the rental van. It was a Toyota (Southcoast Toyota) I'm not what model of Toyota it was... all I remember was that it was like this pale lime green color, But I'm glad it was able to fit all our luggage. When we arrived it was hot, but breezy. We stopped by the Hilton that we were going to stay at but they didn't finish having our rooms ready so we ended up heading to City Walk. We ate at Boca de Beppos... I think that's what it was called but it was a really good italian place. There was pepperoni pizza, lasagna, pasta with ravoli (hello little ravioli) and some great bread...I also drank like rasberry Iced Tea. Man our waitress was awesome, her name is Rachael and she gave us free ice cream haha Francis like had 2 ice creams and finished then in like 4 bites. Haha it was really, Really good because I was hungry. Then after we ate we went back to the hotel and checked in. We stayed on the fourteenth floor. So after we checked in. We went to our rooms, dropped off our stuff and like yeah chilled for a few minutes before we were on the road again. We went to UCLA haha our first mission was to find Ackerman Hall. After some debate, We found it!... I was actually kind of lost but then I remembered the whole sun trick, because the sun always sets towards the west because it was late afternoon. Because we were given 2 maps and us girls had to find the stuff. But after we found Ackerman Hall we were led to the like I think was the center of the campus. Then from there we had a scavenger hunt. We had to find brochures on different stuff like our majors or fields(Animal Science, Biology, Pre-Med, Restuarant/Hotel-Business Management) in addition to Student Government, How to set up your own group, Native American Studies, Native American Programs, Housing, Tutoring and I think that was it. We only maybe had like 40-45 minutes. I had fun but I was extremely tired out because I didn't know where a lot of stuff was because most buildings don't have a label like "housing building" , oh no! they have to give the building a name and then put all kinds of stuff in there. It could be called something like Ackerman Hall and not be a dorm. Haha! Well after much fun at UCLA we headed back to the hotel. We had some time to freshen up before Michael Brown came. He was a pretty cool dude. He was the guy that was going to be our guide to the South Central part of Los Angeles. I mean besides talking about what to expect while we stay at South Central we told him a little bit about what we were to expect. And we told him about what life is like at home, what projects we're workin on at work. Then besides that we told him about what we're intrested in. Then we eventually wrapped up. We did a few interviews then we went to go eat at City Walk. We ate at Cumachos. It was okay I really don't like a lot of cheese so they like covered my taquitos in like cheese it was good without cheese! I liked the food and the show. I mean it actually got kind of cold there! Then we made it back the hotel in just enough time for us to go swimming. It was hella cold! Haha but it warmed up. Then we went back to the room. Showered and then we went to sleep.
We woke up next morning and ate a $20 dollar breakfast. Literally just ate fruit. I mean I thought there would be some other good food like yeah... but no...I mean it was all decked out 2 forks, a knife and a spoon, 2 plates, cloth napkins but the food was all put into nice containers and stuff like that. But food-wise was a little different than what I'm used to. I mean there were like eggs that were like all gooey I think they were supposed to be scrambled eggs, the bacon was okay, but most of all the fruit was GOOD! That was about 10AM. Well we headed down to South Central around 11:30 AM. At first, I'll admit, I was kind of scared and nervous because of all the hype about south central. I think most of us had to stick the Los Angeles phone book (compared to an ABQ phone book) and use it like bullet proof vest but it really wasn't that bad when we went down there. I mean the only person who came up to us was a person who came to ask us for cash for food. I mean on the ride there, we stopped to eat at Fatburger. It was like $8 for a value meal compared to the $6 at home. Then gas was pushing $5 there while at home its like almost $4. I mean there is definetly a price difference. Yeah I think everyone remembers the story about the boy who got a ticket for "blocking the stairway" this guy is way skinnier than me and he like was getting a ticket for sitting on a stairway! That's insane! Besides that fact they thought that he looked like someone they were looking for and they just stuck him in some gang. He's not even in a gang. He said that theres over 10 gangs by where he lives and he's not even sure what gang they stuck him in. Then after we went to the Youth Justice Coalition Center, we headed to the beach. We got there before the sun setted and it was fun. We were able to stick our feet in the water and walk around and someone had pee-pee pants lol... haha well after that we ordered some food. Then we headed back to the hotel. Then we went to sleep...
Okay this morning is Wednesday. Wednesday was pretty awesome, you know why? Because we’re headed to DISNEYLAND! We woke up early and got lost haha, and then the radio station said something nasty! Haha about girls wearing white pants and left everyone who heard it, in the car, were left scarred. Haha then we had to listen to the church channel. Then we actually had gone like 2 different directions till we actually were headed into the right direction and then like we had headed to the wrong parking lot. Eventually we headed on over to the management buildings of Disneyland. It was called something like Team Disney Studios or something like that. We had to sit and wait for someone to be our escort around the management building of Disneyland. Our escort ended up being a very fantastic lady named, Sharon Snapp. We first went into this conference room and we saw a presentation and a video. Then we had a little Q&A session going on till it was time to go see Aladdin. By that time I think us girls were pretty hungry because we didn’t eat because I don’t think the majority of us were hungry that morning. Well we saw Aladdin and that was AMAZING! I have never felt like such a little kid…I loved every minute of that production. Then after that we rode on this super long golf cart back to the front because the backstage preview was done. I loved it! Then from there we were able to go into Disneyland and have fun and ride rides. First we went to Disneyland and then later we went to California Adventure to go ride the Tower of Terror! That was crazy fun! Then that night we watched some IDK what that was. But instead of going to watch the fireworks (which were delayed because of high wind speed), we went to the Indiana Jones ride that was cool! So then after that we went to watch Fantasmic. Then we walked all the way up to Level 5. The escalator was at a standstill then from there, we drove back to the hotel.
Thursday – Okay we woke the freak up at before the crack of dawn just to make it to the beach. It was like 7:30ish when we made it to the beach. At first the water was really cold and salty haha….Then we like had fun… and like them waves had me scared because of what happened to me last time. I like got dragged under the water and that wasn’t fun. Then I lost my glasses to the Ocean! Then I went home blind! LOL! Then like after we got done eating we were planning to eat at Bubba Gumps but it wasn’t open so then we ended up eating at this place where the hot chocolate is really good but not so great service. I mean we got our drinks but we waited about 30 minutes before the waitress to come take our order. There were other people that came in after us that got their order taken before us you know? I was pretty cold by that point. Well other than that I mean the ride back to the hotel was okay. Haha Then we all took our showers and then like we headed down stairs to check out. Like the whole time there I lost my room key till the very end. Then I found it behind my Hot Topic cards. Yeah… Lame. So then, after we checked out then we headed on over to the airport. Then we checked in then sat around. We had to ride the smallest planes! Again! I mean how fun! I thought land of the small planes was over! So then like we had to um… yeah… eventually made it to Salt Lake City… Then eventually! We made it home! Then my dad did a drive by…I travel to the point where my parents don’t even come in to get me anymore…Haha they just do a drive by throw my luggage in and I have to run to the car and then we leave. Haha! Well anyway after that I made my dad stop because I didn’t even eat lunch or dinner just a snack of fruit after we landed in Salt Lake. Yeah… that was our crazy trip!
The Radio Station in LA ROKKED!
Well Today is Friday!
I am really excited because in like 3 days or so we'll be headed to Los Angeles, CA! I haven't been to CA since like 2 years ago... I'm really excited to be going! On Monday, well, we'll be touring UCLA/USC! And having a work shop! Then Tuesday is when we have the Gang Prevention day... I'm not exactly how that day goes but it should be good! Just think neutral colors! Then Wednesday, is DISNEYLAND day! Yay! I'm so freakin excited! haha hopefully this time I'll remember Disneyland better because last time I went I was only like 3 years old! Haha then I can't wait! I can't wait til Wednesday! I hope that week goes by slow next week so I can enjoy every moment of it! haha! Then hopefully go shopping and you know enjoy the beach! Heck yes!
Today we've already finished filming for our TCP informational video for the members of the Youth Pilot Program. I'm not all sure who was all filmed yesterday. I was gone yesterday for my orthodontic appt. I got a clear retainer for my bottom teeth. "So they don't move..." according to my ortho. doc! Yeah...that was my day yesterday besides getting some new cds and some speakers for my computer that hasn't reached it's way towards me yet! haha Well just calling the people who like bought it for me...They said they'll bring it out hopefully! Well yeah, can't wait for that computer either... my next step is to get a portable drive for it! Yeah so like yeah...hahaha! Totally excited....! DUDE...haha

DUDE!
Well I'm finally excited for my freshman year in college. It should be interesting. I am so totally excited for college. This weekend I finally got my dorm room bedding and got my school supplies. All I'm waiting for is my personal hygiene stuff.. I'll wait for that closer to school. Right now I'm just focused on going to orientation....I can't wait until I head to school. I'll have friends that are attending the other nearby community colleges. One of my good friends will be in another city while I'll be stuck in a different city. I have to admit. I'm going to miss her.
But next week the LEF program is going to California. Oh man am I excited for that. I think that it should be interesting and fun. I can't wait. I think we're going to have fun. Although it would be great if I had a laptop already. But suppose-it-ly its coming next month...but I think that I'll survive without it.
Then the week after that is orientation. Then possibly a conference...I might go to..but I'm not so sure about the other stuff. Well I should really all my AIYC members. I should really be working on my PSA besides blogging. Last week it was kind of hard trying to work on anything because one day we were all here and then the next day one person was gone then the next day the same person was gone then another day there was only 2 of us here... and it's kinda hard to film anything with 2 people. Plus I still need building materials for a fake cigarette made life-size. Then besides that I still need to work on the background song and work on spoofing it up.. Then we have some great ideas and the bad this was that i forgot to write them down....:( But I'll try to make it better!
Part of this week and last week was spent trying to create a informational video about Mt. Taylor... Mt. Taylor is an important mountain to the 5 tribes who are willing to put up a fight for the mountain.
Here at the LEF building, we decided that we wanted to make a video of the mountain and of recent events that are taking place here in New Mexico. Last week we were able to create a storyboard and created sort of like a 'plan of action'. We have a general idea of what we're going to do and who we're going to have in the video...But right now we're still kind of in the research stage. I think after we complete the research then we'll be able to work from there. I just hope that it will be complete on time.
There a lot of mixed emotions about Mount Taylor.
There are some people who believe that the 5 tribes are trying to make it reservation land. That's a misconception. I think that the 5 tribes will be dealing with that a lot...misconception... That's an insult. The mountain is sacred to the Native Americans... I holds great value in traditional ceremonies and stories. What would the ceremonies be if the mountain was no more? It would change Native history for sure. I believe that this video will be important because hopefully we'll receive a lot of information. I think that this will be a great video to inform those who don't know about Mount Taylor, will know a lot more after the video. I hope to straighten out some misinformation that was given.
Well after having the conversation that we did last Wednesday, they figured that it would be best to watch this movie after visiting India. "Born into Brothels"... It's a movie about 9 Indian Kids (From India). And that's about as much I know,
but in a few weeks the Youth Pilot Program will be headed to Los Angeles. We have our own book to read. It's called 3 Cups of Tea. I have a good idea that the book should be very interesting.
Last week, this conversation came up about leadership...Leadership is not at the expense of others. Which is a followup to my previous post.
But this week is about oppression...
We have been working on our TCP video on Mt. Taylor... and what it's come down to is the Indian reservations are wanting to deem the mountain as, "sacred", so that efforts made against the mountain will not take place. Some efforts are getting the mountain approved for mining because due to recent discovery, the mountain contains natural resources that are in demand... Apparently private land owners were worried about the land becoming closed to the public because they think the mountain would be apart of the nearby Indian reservations surrounding it. But the reservations are trying to protect the mountain because of the value it holds in traditions. They aren't necessarily trying to close the mountain to the public, just trying to save its natural beauty and value from destruction of mining. It being deemed as sacred wouldn't change anything except the simple fact that it's sacred...
